Memories....well not mine this time - The Topaz

It's that time of year, it is Mothers Day tomorrow, as well as my Granddaughters christening. So its a time for memories and I have spent most of today talking holidays and cruising with my parents.

They have cruised many times before and are looking at a cruise later this year and maybe next year, and love Thomson Cruises. Their favourite ship was The Topaz, she operated for Thomson until about 2002 and was ultimately scrapped in 2008.

Now due to many reasons they really don't want to fly anymore, so for them it is great news that Thomson Cruises have announced their 2012 itineraries, which are on sale from 7th April, and Thomson Cruises will be reintroducing cruises from the UK on Thomson Spirit. Based in Newcastle from May to July 2012 and Harwich in August and September.

There are a variety of itineraries and although they won't be able to go on The Topaz I am sure that Thomson Spirit will be a worthy successor!

  1. Aaaah...... happy memories of our very first cruise on the dignified old lady the 'Topaz'. Was celebrating my 50th b/day and I had always wanted to try a cruise but hubby not so keen. As it was MY special b/day he agreed to try cruising and just loved it, possibly even more than me! Now we're completely hooked. Surprisingly happy memories of that first cruise on Topaz where we experienced a force 9 as we approached Agadir and now know that if we coped with that we could probably cope with anything. We loved that ship :-)

  2. Oh happy days. We must have done 10 cruises on her. Every one enjoyable, we had our 40th wedding anniversary wedding blessing on the bridge. 50th next year. The Spirit will not be the same, cruised on her last month, not even as good as the Celebration although they are supposed to be identical. Topaz was all, ALL INCLUSIVE they would never do that on a ship again. I never saw any one drunk, like the people who say AI encourages the Butins brigade.
